Progress

Offering additional Services via the Borough Website:  For those of you who visit the Borough website on a regular basis, you will notice changes continue to be made to assist residents who take advantage of the services available through the Internet.  When the current Republican administration took over at the start of this year, they were left with a substandard site full of inaccurate and outdated information.   By reaching out to the community for input and implementing changes to bring the site up to date, your Republican leadership will continue to mold the Borough website into a first-class tool for our “tech savvy” residents.  Please do not hesitate to forward any additional suggestions to PitmanRepublican@comcast.net.  Your thoughts will be passed along to your representatives on council.

Restoring Services:In keeping with campaign promises, your Republican council members are working hard to restore many of the services lost through the past administration. They have restored regular bulk pickup to the Borough and have provided a better system of collection for our business district. To quote Councilman Russ Johnson, “The taxpayers of Pitman pay a premium for the services provided by the Borough. They deserve to have their services continue and not be reduced.”

Strengthening Our Businesses within the Borough:Mayor Batten has established an Economic Development Council, consisting of business owners, local leaders and citizens from throughout the Borough. This new EDC has the backing of Borough Council and will assist in marketing Pitman within the region and will provide the Borough with a clear plan for the business district. Working with the Chamber of Commerce and other organizations and individuals throughout the Borough, the EDC has proven to be an invaluable resource in strengthening commerce in Pitman. Do not hesitate to contact council liaison to the EDC, Councilman Russ Johnson with any ideas or thoughts you may have.

Correcting and Updating Borough Ordinances:Many of the Borough’s ordinances have not been reviewed in several years. Your Republican officials are making sure our Borough ordinances are being brought up to 2008 standards.  One example was the correction of our ordinances addressing storm-water and proper leaf pickup to make sure debris does not affect our environment downstream.

Corrected A Flawed Waste Removal System:  Your current administration has made improvements to the flawed waste removal system left by the previous administration.  Prior to the changes, the Borough was making more runs to the county waste facility increasing fuel and manpower costs.  The changes to the trucks have allowed the borough to reduce this wasteful spending.

Keeping Residents Informed: At the direction of Mayor Batten, the Borough newsletter will be out shortly to inform residents of what your elected officials have been working on for the first 6 months of 2008. The newsletter will also provide some important information regarding some of the changes and updates Borough Council has initiated. Feel free to contact your Republican elected officials directly with your comments regarding the Borough newsletter at PitmanRepublican@comcast.net, or check the “contact us” page of this website.

Working Toward Repairing Cracks in Tennis Courts:  Those of you in the community who enjoy the use of our tennis facilities at Shertle Park may have noticed the cracks in the surface.  The current administration was quick to respond, contacting the contractor responsible to take advantage of the one year warranty on the work done in 2007.

Controlling Spending:  Your Republican representatives on council continue to keep a close watch on spending.  They realize that some tough decisions will need to be made to keep our residents safe and provide continuity in our departments, but some recent initiatives by members of the last administration have increased labor costs to the Borough - some as high as $20,000 annually!  Your current Republican council members know first hand how difficult it can be to raise a young family in this state and county, and how tough it is to manage finances on a fixed income.  They are always mindful of who they work for…the taxpayers.
