Issues
Taxes- Under the last democratic administration, taxes increased by double digit percentages! In this economy, none of us can afford that. We have worked hard to make cuts in spending across the board, without reducing services. Councilwoman Kelley has made it one of her highest priorities to review all bills that are received by the borough to look for further cuts to control spending and to keep out local municipal taxes as low as possible.
Business District- Stop into any of the new businesses in our business district, and ask them if they feel Pitman has a “business friendly” feel. Our current Republican leadership has gone above and beyond to reach out to our existing and new businessowners to make sure they know how valuable they are to all of us. Mayor Mike Batten and Councilman Jeff Sanders were instrumental in assisting Guillermo’s and Barcelona in open their locations in Pitman. In stark contrast to the last democratic administration that sat back and watched as businesses like Pal Joey’s left Pitman, your current leaders like Councilman Russ Johnson have worked with business owners and landlords to keep their operations in our business district. There is obviously no magic cure to prevent all business from leaving, but your Republican leadership will work hard to keep our business district growing and vibrant.
Safe Streets- Your current Republican leaders have continually made strides to address the growing problem of loitering in and around our business district and borough. Obviously, there needs to be support from the families of those who choose to congregate in areas around town to be 100% successful, but additional steps are being added on an ongoing basis to reduce this problem. Councilman Sanders, Councilwoman Kelley and Councilman Johnson have met with our police leadership to ensure we are doing what we can. Additional lighting has been added to First Avenue, walking patrols by officers have been added to every shift for the grove and business district and police officers have stepped up picking up violators and requiring parents to come to headquarters to pick up their children. More initiatives will continue to be implemented to make sure you can feel safe around our town.
